Random

Well, we have a new member of the family.

WEIRD story. Remember the dog I found in the highway? (Read down through a few blog posts ago). We put a found ad on the radio and in the paper about her. The day after the ad ran a woman called. She said “I think you found my dog?!” I’m thinking, oh great! I was happy to find her owners. You can tell she’s been well taken care of, she’s fat, clean and a very well behaved inside dog. So I ask the lady to describe the dog she lost and it fits the dog to a “t”. She tells me the dogs name is Minnie, she’s so glad we found her and that she’ll call me back when her husband gets home to arrange pick up. All sounds good, right? So the rest of the day goes by, no call. I call the number from my caller ID the next day. The guy on the phone says he doesn’t know what I’m talking about, then says it must be his neighborn who uses his phone. He’ll have her call me. Another day passes. Nothing. Try again to call. Again, the guy says he told her and that he told her to call us. Again, Nothing. We haven’t heard from them since. We’ve decided this means they no longer want her? I’m not sure what else to do – I’ve done what I can to give her back, right? It’s been almost 5 days.  So now she’s MINE! LOL. I really like her a lot. She’s not the most beautiful dog – but she is SO sweet. We need a little inside dog. Keith likes her – it fits. She’s one of the most well behaved dogs you’ll ever meet. She’s older so she’s not too hyper or bouncy. She’s very loving. She hasn’t barked ONCE. Seriously. So anyway – meet Minnie. Happy to have taken over the couch and an old baby blanket. I wouldn’t have chosen the name, but we’ve been calling her that (and Minnie Mouse, and Minnie Muffin) and it feels weird to change it now. :)

My sister Jael and I went out to do a small photoshoot. We went up to an old asylum we have here in town because there are tons of old, run down, very interesting (and scary!) buildings. It’s very deserted and quiet up in the woods on top of a hill overlooking our town. The first building we went to was the old TB ward and we were trying to decide if we wanted to shoot here – then we saw this sign. Yeah – not going to stick around too long. If she looks funny it’s because we were both holding our breath while we took the picture then high-tailed it out of there! LOL.

I’ll have to post some of the pictures we took after we get them edited. We got some good ones.

No news on the adoption front. Mailed our homestudy stuff but I haven’t heard from them. I”ll email monday and make sure they got it. I was supposed to mail our agency application last week but we are waiting to hear back from Keith’s work about his life insurance information that the agency wants. I think because it’s summer and schools out it’s taking a while to get the info. Hopefully we can have it turned in this week. Yippee! Current goal is still to have the homestudy complete by the end of summer and ready to turn into the agency. I was hoping to have the I-600A complete by the end of the summer too, but between homestudy fees, Ireland, Haiti, life, etc – we’re going to have to wait a bit longer. We’ll probably file towards the end of summer. Unless $830 drops into our laps somehow. :)

Some pictures from fathers day. We had a picnic at the lake and went canoeing.
K. didn’t go out on the boat (she didn’t want to wear the life jacket) but F. went and LOVED it. He did pretty well. There was only one moment when I thought he was going to fall out. There was a spider in the canoe and he freaked and started to throw himself over the side. Another sister grabbed him and his dad calmly asked him to stay in the boat. :) They also went creature hunting in the creek. It was a fun time had by all.

We’ve had a busy couple of days around here!

We sent off our homestudy application and a big check. Fun, fun. I’m excited to get it going – we’ve got a lot of the paperwork for the homestudy gathered so I don’t anticipate it taking too long. My goal is to have it done by the end of the summer and I think that is a totally realistic goal.

Yesterday I was driving to the vets office to pick up some Advantage and saw a little dog on the highway. I pulled over and got out, as soon as she saw me she ran into traffic! A car screeched and swerved and when I saw her next (the car was between she and I) she was laying on her back/side. I thought “OH NO, she’s been hit”. But she got right back up and when there were no cars coming I called her. She came running up and jumped into my arm. Poor thing, every hair on her body was shaking! I was headed to the vet anyway, so when I got there we checked her out and she seems to be OK. She’s an older, fat, Jack Russell mix. I really hope she just got lost and wasn’t dumped. We have a lot of dumped and abandoned dogs around here but she seems like she’s been a house pet and has been pretty spoiled. We’ve got ads in the paper and radio so hopefully her family will find her. She’s staying with Keith and I right now. My mom (who does animal rescue) has no room (11 dogs right now) and so we’ve got her. She spent the rest of the day yesterday snoring on our living room chair, so I don’t think she’s too upset right now.

Also, we booked our tickets to Ireland! It is so good to finally know when we’re going. It’s coming up soon. Now I need to work out hotels/hostels and trains. We won’t be driving, just doing the rail system. My mom did this last time she was there (last year) and it worked out well. We’re so excited!!!

Haiti travel – well, we’ve had a bit of set-back. The children I’m supposed to escort aren’t ready yet. Their files are still in MOI. (Haiti adoption people know what that means). But it means they aren’t ready and may not be ready for several months. :( I feel so bad for their parents, who have waiting SO LONG to bring their children home. It is just very upsetting that the adoption process in Haiti is taking so long. Ugh.
Anyway – I think I’m going to go ahead and book a ticket to go now and then will plan to go back whenever these kids are ready. I have some frequent flyer miles I’m going to try to use and will have even more after we get back from Ireland. July is a crazy month already (we have stuff going on every week in July) so I may have to wait until August? I don’t want to, but I just can’t really see how I can get to Haiti in July.

Anyway, thats a bit of news from around here. More later….

Keith and I have both gained a lot of weight in the last couple of years. I was looking at pictures the other day of us when we were younger and dating, before we were married. We were so skinny! LOL. We’ve both decided we’re going to lose weight and have started exercising together. For me, it is SO much easier to make myself excercise when there is someone doing it with me. Keith’s been doing the Couch to 5K program from HERE. I have been kinda doing my own thing. So far, Keith has lost about 22lb (!!!) and I’m down about 7lbs. I need to bump up my exercising. Right now I’m working out about 3x’s a week – Keith is working out 6x’s a week. When he sets his mind to something he has so much discipline. Off to do some housecleaning….may have company today.

Crisis averted….

Heard back from the agency. All is fine, thank God. Everything goes out next week and we’re moving right along. Yay!

I feel like bursting into tears….why does this have to be so hard?

I am waiting to hear back from our adoption agency, but there is a chance we may not be able to go forward with this program in Uganda. I just absolutely can’t believe this is happening again. Please pray that things will work out. I’m not going to post more details right now but will after I hear from the agency. :(

I should be…

I should be making dinner or cleaning my house or grocery shopping or working on adoption paperwork or sending out some MAT files or answering my 5000 waiting emails or writing a real blog post….but instead, I’m sitting here watching this. I need to join some type of support group for procrastinators…
